COMPETITION SCORING
There are 3 competitions for those that are interested. I have to emphasize that the first point of the BAR races is to find reasonably local races over various disciplines and distances that any club members can enter - knowing that many others from our club will also be competing. Ability is totally irrelevant !! Being part of something is paramount and getting support, enthusiasm and camaraderie from other club members by sharing the pleasure of our sport totally overrides the competitive side of things.
Competition gives you an idea of how far you have come. Does that training programme work for you? How do you compare against others?
SHORT BAR (Best All Rounder)
There are 6 Short BAR races, see above. The fastest MSTC man and lady get 10 points, 2nd fastest 9 points, 3rd - 8 points etc. If more than 10 compete then every competitor gets 1 point once the first 9 have been awarded.
In this competition all the 6 races count - and the winners are the male and female athletes with the highest cumulative scores. In the past the winners have tended to be the most consistent athletes.
LONGBAR (Best All Rounder)
There are 6 Long BAR races, see above. The fastest MSTC man and lady get 10 points, 2nd fastest 9 points, 3rd - 8 points etc. If more than 10 compete then every competitor gets 1 point once the first 9 have been awarded.

BEST ATHLETE
From the 12 BAR races your BEST FOUR count. BUT at least 2 of the counting races must be multisport (Duathlon or Triathlon - or Aquathlon if we decide to put one in). The other 2 races can be any, including other multisport races, but cannot be 2 time trials, 2 runs or 2 swims. The idea is that this prevents a 'super cyclist' or 'super swimmer' or 'super runner' from dominating the Best Athlete competition with his/her own specialist sport.
The scoring in these 4 counting races is based on the percentage above the overall race winner's time. (I count men and women's winners separately). I then calculate the average percentage for that athlete - and the athlete who completes 4 scoring race with the lowest average percentage is the winner.
If you have seen any of our results in recent years you will see I am always recording that percentage for every competitor. At the end of the season I calculate the 'BEST SCORE' for every athlete and record how many 'counting races they took part in. (And, YES, it does take hours to work it all out!!)
