Open water swimming takes place from late April to the end of September (depending on water temperature). To enable you to take part in open water swimming sessions with the club, you must:
- Be a current full or affiliate member of the Club
- Complete an Indemnity/Waiver form
- Wear a wetsuit and visible swim cap
- Be prepared to take a turn in the kayak/on the pontoon (Ardingly reservoir only - see below)
Every person must accept the indemnity form during registration on the website for the forthcoming season/year and read the risk assessments and club policies. The water board require new indemnity acceptance each year from each swimmer - those completed last year are redundant.
We currently have access for members to take part in open water swimming at the following venues:
We have two weekly sessions run by the Club
- Saturday mornings 08:30-10:00
- Tuesday evenings 18:00-19:30
The cost is £4.00 per swim (£6.00 for affiliates). You can buy credits on the website on your details page. Safety cover, changing and showers are available.
To keep everyone safe we have a spotter on the jetty and kayakers on the water accompanying swimmers. We operate a rota system and everyone that swims will be expected to kayak or on the jetty at some point. Please look out for emails from Dutyman allocating your time to kayak/spot.
If you are attending the swim sessions or working the rota please check out our safety video before coming to the reservoir.

(Cripplegate lane, Horsham) on a Monday night (from May) 18.00-19.30.
This venue is available to MSTC members to use during the allotted time but please note that the sessions are not organised by the club and members swim at their own risk.
This is a free session, with changing and showers available (code is C23469).
We share this venue with a few tri clubs so if you decide to go along you will see everyone getting changed on the floating jetty - do introduce yourself. Clubs have specific swim hats - ours are red and have our logo on.
There is a code of conduct point which states swimmers should swim up the left bank, and down the middle of the lake to minimise the risk of collision, and to separate us from kayakers.
Forest Row RH18 5HT.
- Tuesday evenings at 19:00hrs
- Sundays at 18:00hrs.
The venue is also open three afternoons a week in the summer for swimming and boat hire.
Cost is £6.00, changing and showers available.
Please note that the sessions are not organised by the club and members swim at their own risk.
We may also meet for sea swimming but this is arranged on an individual basis - Facebook for details of any forthcoming swims.
